Smoltek Hydrogen admitted into Swedish-German Cleantech Platform 2026 – strengthens position in Europe's leading hydrogen market
This press release is an English version of the previously published Swedish version, which has interpretive precedence.
Smoltek Nanotech Holding AB (publ) (“Smoltek” or the “Company”) announces that its subsidiary Smoltek Hydrogen has been accepted as one of nine Swedish cleantech companies to the Swedish-German Cleantech Platform 2026, which is run by the Swedish Energy Agency and the German-Swedish Chamber of Commerce. The program provides Smoltek Hydrogen with the opportunity to expand into Germany’s rapidly growing hydrogen market, as well as to accelerate the commercial development of the company’s PEM electrolyzer and fuel cell technology.
Germany is one of Europe's most dynamic markets for fuel cells and green hydrogen, with extensive investments in electrolysis, industrial transformation and energy infrastructure. Participation in the program gives Smoltek Hydrogen direct access to strategic industrial players, potential customers and investors in Germany. This opens an opportunity to accelerate the company's commercial expansion in fuel cells, which complements the company's focus on PEM electrolyzers.
“Germany is an important market for green hydrogen and fuel cells. This program enables us to collaborate directly with industrial partners who are central to the commercialization of our technology, and to act faster in key applications,” says Ellinor Ehrnberg, President of Smoltek Hydrogen.
Smoltek Hydrogen has identified significant growth opportunities in fuel cells, including for defense-related applications, such as drones and portable power solutions, where traditional batteries and diesel generators are too large and heavy, and easily detectable.
Smoltek Hydrogen's nanotechnology-based materials platform reduces contact resistance in fuel cells, significantly increasing efficiency, while delivering high power density, reliability, and robustness in PEM systems. These properties are particularly valuable in applications where long autonomous operation time, low detectability, and reliable power supply are critical.
The Swedish-German Cleantech Platform
The Swedish-German Cleantech Platform targets innovative SMEs whose solutions strengthen the energy system, improve efficiency and support the transition to sustainable energy. For Smoltek, this platform is a strategic accelerator for fuel cell commercialization, partnership development and market growth.
Smoltek Nanotech Holding is a public deeptech company that provides a technology that enables the production of conductive nanostructures on various materials. The company's nanostructure manufacturing technology can be used in several industrial sectors. Customers are found in the global process industry and semiconductors. The products that the company develops are used in equipment to produce fossil-free hydrogen and in semiconductors to further miniaturize microchips. The company protects its unique carbon nanotechnology through an extensive patent portfolio. Smoltek's share is listed on the Spotlight Stock Market under the ticker SMOL. Smoltek is a development company and forward-looking statements regarding time to market, production volume and price levels should be interpreted as forecasts and not commitments.
