OpenAI Launches GPT-5.5-Cyber for Critical Infrastructure Defenders

05:31 AM EDT, 05/08/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft-backed (MSFT) OpenAI launched GPT-5.5-Cyber in limited preview for vetted cybersecurity teams responsible for protecting critical infrastructure, expanding its Trusted Access for Cyber program, the company said late Thursday.
The company said the model is built to support defensive security work such as authorized red teaming, penetration testing and exploit validation in controlled settings while retaining protections against misuse.
OpenAI said GPT-5.5-Cyber provides approved users with greater flexibility than the standard GPT-5.5 model, while requiring enhanced verification and phishing-resistant account protections starting June 1.
