Nordic Credit Rating (NCR) said today that it has signed the Statement on ESG factors in Credit Risk and Ratings as set out by the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI).
"We share a common vision of improving the systematic and transparent consideration of ESG factors in credit risk and ratings," said NCR CEO Gustav Liedgren.
PRI is an investor initiative in partnership with the Finance Initiative of the UN's Environment Programme and its Global Compact, a worldwide pact between companies and the UN to make globalization socially and environmentally more responsible. Together with its international network of signatories, the PRI initiative is dedicated to the practical implementation of six principles for responsible investing. The goal is to better understand the impact of investment activities on ESG issues and to help signatories integrate these issues into their investment decisions.
Since its inception, NCR has considered ESG factors in its methodologies for rating corporates, real estate companies, and financial institutions. Relevant ESG factors have been discussed in our rating reports to highlight an issuer's exposure and what it is doing to mitigate the associated risk.
We are now further increasing transparency by publishing commentaries explaining in more detail how ESG factors are considered in each methodology. In addition, we will highlight relevant ESG factors in a separate section in our rating reports on all issuers. This section will be published as a separate document on the issuer page of our website.
NCR is a credit rating agency registered with the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), and its mission is to provide independent opinions on creditworthiness in the form of credit ratings. We will focus our analysis on ESG factors on their potential impact on an entity's future creditworthiness. While our focus will be on ESG factors which can impact creditworthiness in the near term, we will also discuss factors which could have a long-term effect on credit quality.
More information is available on our dedicated ESG in credit ratings section.
