Netum launched the MAISA AI project supported by Business Finland – Artificial Intelligence is revolutionising the operating methods of software development

IT service company Netum Ltd has launched the MAISA AI development program, which aims to harness artificial intelligence to support application development and requirements management at all stages of the process in the best possible way. The aim of the joint project, funded by Business Finland, is to renew AI-based software design and strengthen the competitiveness of Finnish companies also in the international market.

MAISA (Managed AI-powered Software Innovations) is an extensive, two-year research and development programme in which Netum acts as a key partner, together with other pioneering companies and research institutes in the field. In addition to Netum, a total of three universities and nine other companies are involved in the project.

The purpose of the project is to build a new kind of collaboration framework in which artificial intelligence works seamlessly as part of software development processes – not only to help an individual developer, but to support the entire team and organisation. An extensive cooperation network enables the exchange of information and expertise and the development of joint innovations.

The MAISA project will produce new information internationally on the application of generative AI systems and AI agents and create the conditions for building efficient and reliable methods to support their deployment and utilisation in the software industry. The project will develop, among other things, artificial intelligence agents that support requirements management, software development, and business model renewal.

"Artificial intelligence is no longer just a technology – it is a strategic partner. In the MAISA project, we are developing solutions that renew the entire value chain of software production and bring artificial intelligence into everyday work," says Jani Henriksson, Chief AI Officer at Netum. "Our goal is to develop AI solutions that not only make work more efficient but also improve its quality and sustainability. We want to ensure that artificial intelligence operates ethically, safely and transparently," Henriksson continues.

Business Finland's funding decision emphasises the international potential of the project and its impact on the renewal of the Finnish economy. The project is expected to result in new business, jobs and high-quality expertise that can be applied widely in different industries.

"In the MAISA project, we combine research, technology and practical expertise – and together we create solutions that take the entire Finnish software industry forward," Henriksson sums up.
