05:50 AM EDT, 05/20/2026 (MT Newswires) -- A group representing major airlines in the US is opposing a Trump administration proposal that would require smaller airports to replace Transportation Security Administration officers with private security screeners, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing a testimony.

On Wednesday, Airlines for America Chief Executive Chris Sununu will tell a US House of Representatives committee that making sure that private security "remains an option for airports and does not become a mandatory program is paramount to the US aviation industry,"the news agency reported.

Airlines for America -- whose members include Alaska Air (ALK), American Airlines (AAL), Delta Air Lines (DAL), FedEx (FDX), JetBlue (JBLU), Southwest Airlines (LUV), United Airlines (UAL), and UPS (UPS) -- said it supports TSA modernization and technology investments aimed at improving screening efficiency, according to the report.

Airlines for America didn't immediately respond to MT Newswires'request for comment.
