Sustainability in every journey
Public transport – and Nobina in particular – has long led the green transition from fossil dependency to renewable fuels, electrification, and emission-free mobility. In just a few years, we’ve gone from operating a handful of electric buses to having over 25 percent of our fleet electrified. Today, more than 80 percent of all our vehicles run on fossil-free fuels or electricity, and in some markets, that figure is 100 percent. Equally important is our ongoing effort to reduce energy consumption—on every journey, every kilometer. At Nobina, we call our concept for eco-efficient driving The Green Journey (Den Gröna Resan, DGR).
Recently, we reached a significant milestone in our long-standing commitment to The Green Journey: our Kallhäll traffic area in Sweden, with over 300 bus drivers, became the first to achieve 100 percent green drivers—where every driver and every kilometer driven met the standards of green driving.
The DGR concept was developed many years ago and combines training, coaching, and support with technology, data collection, and feedback. The result is lower energy consumption, reduced emissions, and a greener, more pleasant travel experience.
In 2024 alone, the DGR efforts led to a fuel reduction of nearly 3.5 million liters – equivalent to the fuel consumption of a bus driving around the world 300 times, or a reduction of 9,600 tonnes of CO₂.
“Public transport is part of the solution to many of society’s greatest challenges – from climate change to employment and accessibility. What makes our model unique is that the more people travel with us, the more sustainable society becomes – a direct link between growth and reduced emissions. That’s why we continuously work to lower our energy consumption – on every journey, every kilometer,” says Henrik Dagnäs, Group CEO at Nobina.
“Energy efficiency and carbon reduction are two of our most important targets, and The Green Journey is one of our most powerful tools in achieving them, as we continue our transition towards 100 percent renewable transport,” says Jenny Karlsson, Head of Sustainability at Nobina.
Each day, Nobina operates the equivalent of 24 trips around the globe and carries close to one million passengers. In 2024, approximately 78 percent of all kilometers driven were registered as green, resulting in a total fuel reduction of 3.5 million liters.
About Nobina
This is Nobina. We are the Nordic region’s largest public transport operator, with 13,000 employees across four countries. Every day, all year round, one million people choose to travel more sustainably with us. From north to south, in urban and in rural areas. To the next bus stop, or all the way home. Together with our passengers and clients, we are big enough to make a real difference. From a welcoming greeting and a comfortable bus journey, to new smart technology that contributes to more fossil-free travel. A unique opportunity to bring about change.
The Group operates in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland and reported sales of over SEK 13 billion in 2023/2024. In the Swedish market, Nobina also operates special needs transportation under the Samtrans, Göteborgs Buss, and Telepass brands, respectively.
Together, we keep society moving every day.
