Waystream is today launching a new series of switches for fiber broadband networks. The new switch LS2300 is aimed at operators that want to install 10 Gbit/s equipment in the access network to meet the demand for greater bandwith. -       The LS2300 is ideal for aggregating FTTH access networks. It can be used in networks for broadband services that use many communcation technologies like fiber, copper or wireless. The switch complements the Waystream product portfolio for broadband networking and makes it possible for us to offer a complete solution for service provisioning that includes BNGs, edge routers and access equipment, says Fredrick Nyman, Product Manager at Waystream. The LS2300 is designed to handle traffic up to 480 Gbit/s and has 24 SFP+ ports, redundant power supply and a smaller form factor (less depth) compared to other solutions that makes it a good fit for modern fiber networks. Fiber is today used to connect homes with speeds up to 1,000 Mbit/s. Increased consumption of play services and other services required a lot of bandwith which means that operators have to upgrade their network infrastructure in order to cope with the increased workload. Studies show that the speed for broadband networks will double in the next few years and that video content will be the dominant type of traffic by 2020. The new LS2300 series is designed to meet the demand for greater bandwidth and makes it possible for operators to install their access networks using 10 Gbit/s while also achieving a safe and cost-efficient aggregation solution.
