04:28 AM EDT, 05/07/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Meta Platforms (META) has asked a Los Angeles judge to throw out a jury verdict that found the company liable for a woman's depression in a case over whether social media platforms were designed to be addictive for young users, Reuters reported late Wednesday.

Meta requested either a ruling in its favor or a new trial following the March verdict, which found Meta and Alphabets'(GOOG, GOOGL) Google negligent in the design of their platforms and in failing to warn users about potential harms, the report said, citing the filing.

The jury awarded $4.2 million in damages against Meta and $1.8 million against Google, Reuters said, adding that Google has also asked the court to overturn the verdict or grant a new trial.

Meta Platforms did not immediately respond to MT Newswires'request for comment.
