04:05 AM EDT, 05/11/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft (MSFT) and G42 faced delays in their Kenya data center plans after talks stalled over guaranteed annual payment demands, Bloomberg reported Sunday, citing unnamed people familiar with the matter.

The proposed $1 billion geothermal-powered facility from Microsoft and G42, aimed at expanding East Africa's cloud capacity, has been delayed by disputes over payment guarantees and power demands, potentially scaling back the project, according to the report.

Kenyan officials said talks on the Microsoft and G42 project are ongoing, though its scale and power demands remain under review, with President William Ruto warning it could strain the country's electricity supply, Bloomberg added.

Microsoft did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
