Solar Foods Partners with Fortum for New Production Facility in Finland

10:34 AM EDT, 05/13/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Solar Foods (SFOODS.HE) and Fortum (FORTUM.HE) signed an agreement for the development of the food technology company's Factory 02 in Lappeenranta, Finland.
The energy company will provide the design and pre-engineering work for the industrial-scale facility's hydrogen production, heating and cooling services, and electricity infrastructure, according to a Wednesday release. The investment decision for the project is expected within 2026.
Factory 02 intends to boost Solar Foods'annual production capacity for its Solein protein product to 6,400 tons from 160 tons. The plant is expected to be operational at the end of 2028 with a first-phase capacity of 3.2 kilotons per year, followed by a second-phase expansion to 6.4 kilotons per year in 2029.
Additionally, Solar Foods will negotiate a supply agreement with GEA Group (G1A.F) for the design, construction, and delivery of process equipment and related services for the new factory.
