SDS outdoor gunshot detection sensor enabled law enforcement to apprehend a drive-by shooter.
When shots were fired at a retail storefront, SDS Perimeter Outdoor Gunshot Detection sensors instantly detected the gunfire and alerted police in real-time, despite having no witnesses, victims, or visible damage. The sensors' dual-verification system captured both acoustic and infrared signals, providing officers with location data and actionable intelligence.
Key technological capabilities demonstrated in the incident include:
The sensor data enabled police to access video surveillance footage showing the suspect’s vehicle and license plate, leading to a swift arrest. A vehicle search uncovered shell casings matching the detected gunfire.
"This case demonstrates how automated gunshot detection eliminates reliance on witness reports and accelerates police response when every second counts," said James Reno, Vice President of Sales for Shooter Detection Systems. "Our sensors provide law enforcement with the real-time intelligence needed to act decisively and remove dangerous criminals from the streets."
Following the successful deployment, the police department expanded its SDS system from 3 to 15 sensors across high-risk areas. The technology will also provide long-term crime trend data to improve resource allocation.
SDS is the recognized leader in gunshot detection technology, trusted by law enforcement nationwide and SAFETY Act Certified by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. For more information visit ShooterDetectionSystems.com or download the case study.
