SIBS, through partner Capsule Technology, secures first modular classroom pilot project for Malaysian public schools
SIBS Sdn Bhd (SIBS), a leader in advanced modular construction, is pleased to announce that it has signed a contract to deliver its first pilot modular classroom project for a Malaysian public school. This milestone was achieved through its strategic partnership with Capsule Technology Sdn Bhd.
The pilot project will be implemented at SK Tan Sri Awang Had Salleh and serves as a vital proof-of-concept (POC) for the Ministry of Education Malaysia (KPM). The initiative aims to demonstrate how modular and Industrialized Building System (IBS) technology can be rapidly deployed within existing school campuses with minimal disruption to daily operations while maintaining superior and consistent building quality.
This project is strategically aligned with Malaysia’s 2026 Federal Budget, which earmarks significant funding for new preschool classrooms and modular/IBS construction. These initiatives are designed to address classroom shortages and school capacity constraints nationwide, representing more than RM200 million in targeted funding for scalable classroom delivery.
“This pilot is designed to demonstrate speed, quality, and cost-efficiency in a live school environment. By working alongside Capsule Technology, we are showcasing a clear pathway for repeatable, multi-site classroom programs that can be rolled out across Malaysia to meet urgent infrastructure needs,” says Lawrence Chua, Executive Director for SIBS Sdn Bhd.
SIBS and Capsule Technology believe that modular classrooms will play a pivotal role in supporting Malaysia’s education infrastructure strategy under the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13). This approach offers a faster, more industrialized, and sustainable alternative to traditional construction methods, ensuring that educational facilities are delivered on time and to the highest standards.
