03:45 AM EDT, 04/29/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Facebook parent Meta Platforms (FB2A.F) is violating the European Union's Digital Services Act, according to preliminary findings by the European Commission.
The regulator said Wednesday that Meta has not properly identified, assessed, or mitigated risks for minors under 13 years old accessing Facebook and Instagram. While the company set a minimum user age of 13, its measures did not effectively prevent underage users from joining or ensure their removal from the platforms, the Commission added.
If the preliminary views are confirmed, the regulator may issue a non-compliance decision and trigger a fine of up to 6% of Meta's total worldwide annual turnover. It cautioned that the findings do not prejudge the investigation's outcome.
Meta did not immediately respond to MT Newswires'request for comment.
