05:39 AM EDT, 05/18/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft (MSFT) backed OpenAI and the government of Malta announced a partnership to offer eligible citizens one year of free ChatGPT Plus access after they complete a national AI literacy course, OpenAI said Saturday.

The AI for All initiative will launch its first phase in May with an AI training program developed by the University of Malta to promote responsible AI use in daily life and work, while the Malta Digital Innovation Authority will oversee access for eligible participants, the company added.

OpenAI said the partnership is the first nationwide rollout of ChatGPT Plus and part of its OpenAI for Countries program supporting government AI adoption.
