Clean-tech company Swedish Stirling has hired Christian Nilsson as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Christian will run the company’s technology and development department, and will play an essential role now as the company initiates volume production during the autumn, as well as in the long-term work of expanding the usage areas of the PWR BLOK technology. Christian will start as CTO on 1 September.

For over 20 years, Christian Nilsson has worked with technology and product development in various roles at the Volvo group and at SAAB Automobile AB. His most recent position was Director Product Quality at Volvo Penta, where he was in charge of technical product quality for Volvo Penta’s customers in 130 different markets. Christian has a mechanical engineering degree from Chalmers University of Technology and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Gothenburg. He has previous experience of Stirling engine technology, having worked as an Engine technician in the Swedish navy on the first Stirling engine-powered submarine, Näcken, at the end of the 90s.

”I’m really happy that we’ve been able to bring in Christian as CTO. He has exactly the knowledge and experience that Swedish Stirling needs for the upcoming commercial expansion. Christian’s outlook and motivation also completely align with the company’s vision and long-term intentions,” says Gunnar Larsson, CEO of Swedish Stirling.

”Swedish Stirling has done some incredible development work, and the PWR BLOK is a completely new kind of recycling technology that couldn’t come at a better time. I’m really looking forward to being involved in the expansion phase that’s ahead, and to contributing to the development of more usage cases for the Stirling technology, “ says Christian Nilsson, incoming CTO of Swedish Stirling.

Swedish Stirling is in an expansive commercialisation phase currently. The company recently signed an order with Glencore for an installation of 10 MW at the Lion smelter in South Africa, with an estimated order value of over SEK 413m. Earlier this year, the company also signed a declaration of intent with German SMS Group for the introduction of the PWR BLOK onto the European market. The company will commence volume production of the PWR BLOK at its factory in Sibbhult this autumn.
