05:52 AM EDT, 04/21/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Lockheed Martin (LMT) said Tuesday it has launched the final satellite in its GPS III series from Cape Canaveral.
The satellite features an optical crosslink demonstration system enabling direct communication between orbital assets to improve operational resilience.
The equipment also carries an experimental atomic clock designed to deliver precise timekeeping capabilities.
According to the company, the vehicle established signal contact shortly after liftoff and remains under management at a Denver control center pending formal operational acceptance.
Manufacturing operations are now transitioning to fulfill a contract for 12 next-generation models equipped with enhanced anti-jamming defenses, the company added.
