04:21 AM EDT, 04/21/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Uber Technologies (UBER) has been ordered to pay $5,000 to a woman who claimed she had been sexually assaulted by an Uber driver, Reuters reported Monday, citing a federal jury in North Carolina.
The woman claimed she faced the assault in March 2019 in Raleigh, North Carolina, according to Reuters.
The ride-hailing giant argued during the trial that it is a software company and not a common cab service that has a legal requirement to protect passengers under the state's law, Reuters said.
Uber did not immediately respond to MT Newswires'request for comment.
