(Alliance News) - President Donald Trump's nominee to head the US Federal Reserve told lawmakers at a tense confirmation hearing Tuesday that he will retain independence from the White House.

"I'll be an independent actor if confirmed," Kevin Warsh told the Senate Banking Committee, as he faced sharp queries on his assets and views on central bank independence at a time when Trump is constantly seeking to influence monetary policy.
