01:54 AM EDT, 04/21/2026 (MT Newswires) -- SSAB (SSAB-A.ST, SSAB-B.ST, SSABAH.HE, SSABBH.HE) won a 20 million-euro grant for a five‑year research and development program to produce fossil-free steel through a Business Finland-sponsored competition.

The Swedish steel manufacturer said Tuesday the Finnish public innovation funding organization's grant involves its Sustainable World through Steels, where the company intends to create an ecosystem that will support the transition to fossil-free steel.

The lead project under the program has an estimated total cost of 50 million euros and will be rolled out initially in Finland, with plans for international expansion, including through a funding collaboration in the European Union.
