03:49 AM EDT, 05/20/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Alibaba Group's (BABA) cloud unit launched a new artificial intelligence chip called the Zhenwu M890 at its 2026 cloud summit, the company said Wednesday.

Alibaba Cloud said the M890 delivers roughly three times the performance of its earlier Zhenwu 810E processor.

The company also outlined a long-term chip development plan, saying it expects to release a successor chip called the V900 in Q3 2027. The V900 is projected to offer another threefold performance improvement over the M890, it said.

The M890 chip, developed by Alibaba's semiconductor arm T-Head, is designed for AI agent applications that can perform complex multi-step tasks with limited human supervision, according to a Reuters report.
